Very cute and creative. Great little boxes for the Christmas earrings that I am working on for gifts this year. I was given a box like this for christmas last year by a neighbour wbeephad made them for her family members, she bought some Green and Blacks little individual chocolates and filled them up. I have now learnt to make them and will do the same this year for my family. For Christmas, embellish with thin ribbon and hang from your Christmas tree as ornaments to be opened on Christmas Day. They can also be added to wreaths, table settings etc. as a colourful little addition that holds a nice surprise.

For the top of the box, try to position it so that the most colorful or interesting scene of the card front will be centered in the middle of the pattern. Now you have made a tiny treasure box from a recycled greeting card. These are suitable in size to hold small treats, a few coins, candy, earrings or other small gifts. The smaller pattern is the bottom of the box, using the back page of the greeting card. Don’t worry about a verse or two, or any other small amount of printing; usually it’s invisible when the box is folded up. The larger pattern makes the box top. There are fold lines indicated, and two cut lines - you will assemble both the top and the bottom of the box in exactly the same way.

Add a little ribbon bow just above the card and wrap your present in tissue paper before putting it into the bag. This looks lovely with brown paper bags and tartan ribbons. Cut out the pictures on the larger cards, punch holes around the edges with a hole punch, add a shoelace or brightly coloured wool (with sticky tape wrapped around the ends) and you have a cheerful and cheap lacing card for little ones. If they are particularly popular you could laminate them to make them last longer. Cut playing-card shapes out of the cards, stick a piece of plain card over any writing if necessary, and use to make a game for your children to play next year. As a variation, you could back each shape with a plain-coloured piece of card or construction paper and write on it the date and name of the person who sent the card.

Make little Christmas boxes for next year. You will find the instructions here (but beware, this is addictive!). These work particularly well as little gift boxes on a Christmas table, with a tiny present for each guest tucked inside. Hearts work nicely, as do simple Christmas tree shapes and even plain squares and circles.

Glue a ribbon loop to the back of the star so you will be able to hang in on your Christmas tree. Punch a hole in the top and tie a ribbon for the hanger. They make great gifts for residents nursing homes and people who can’t get out at Christmas time. Children of all ages will love decorating these trees. They are great activities to make at Christmas parties.
